"1001 Flat World Tales" Update: Marhabban, Hola, Ca Va, Ni Hao, Gruss Gott, etc: All Languages Now Welcome

My oh my. Miss Profe’s comment on an earlier post just triggered a new idea….

The 1001+ Flat World Tales wiki / “blook” project is now multi-lingual, like the wonderful world itself.

Here’s Miss Profe’s comment:

Re: The Flat Classroom Project. Yes; I am interested in a collaboration. I am a middle and high school Spanish teacher. Ideally I am looking for a collaboration with a Spanish classroom. It might be fascinating to connect with a Spanish classroom in S. Korea. Anyway, let me know what is possible.

And here’s my reply:

Wow, Miss Profe, I think you just opened me further. There is no reason I can think to exclude stories in all languages. The flat world is not all anglophone, so why not have foreign language sections as well? clayburell@gmail.com Email me! Let’s talk.

This is the beauty of working on a wiki. It’s an endless, open space. It really is big enough to accommodate the world.

So why not? “Foreign” language teachers (horrible phrase, that), all you have to do is this: go to the 1001+ Flat World Tales project wiki, request membership (put some info about yourself, your school, your language, and a way for me to confirm you are indeed a teacher), and I’ll let you in.

Then all you have to do is start a “world languages” page (”edit navigation” on the left menu), and we’ll take it from there.

The potential for a “foreign” language class seems fertile, seems to me. But you’re the experts, so take it where you will. Ideally, you’ll find other language classrooms to do your writing with.

Maybe it will fly, maybe it won’t. But I’d love to see it happen.

(I’d also love to see stories by native speakers/writers of non-English tongues.)

Thanks for the idea, Miss Profe–either way.
