Curious about the possibilities for wikis in the classroom, but clueless? Go here for a good intro to wikis in the classroom.
And check out this HS history teacher’s collaborative writing wiki projects, “Choose Your Own Wiki Adventure: Using Wikis in K-12 Classrooms.” They’re awesome. I can see a lot of similar uses of this tool for writing projects in Language Arts classrooms.
Design Patterns for Eduwikis is a nice table of different wiki designs for different learning objectives: a must-read for the variety of wiki educational uses. (Just looking at it sparked a cool idea for a collaborative wiki writing-to-learn role-play using the “Ant Farm” model in my French Revolution unit. And another idea for my English/Humanities Arabian Nights unit using the “Exegesis” model for close reading and commentary on key passages. This is so cool.)
Finally (for now), D. Conley’s Aristotle Experiment uses Wikispaces in some creative ways as well.
Hint: Instead of building a class wiki from scratch, you can easily copy and paste existing layouts into your own wiki, and adapt from there!
